Our Top Hen Party Ideas In Aviemore
Here are the most popular hen day activities in Aviemore
Picking just a handful of activities from the vast choice available in Aviemore is difficult, but here are some I know will be great fun!
I’m going to start things off with one of the most demanding, tough and just downright awesome things I have ever done in my life (I’m not exaggerating!) – gorge walking. What is the best way to describe gorge walking? Well, it’s an amazing adventure that will see you swim, jump, climb and even slide down natural flumes as you make your way from one point to another. It’s an adventure like you’ve never been on before and it’s something that you’ll remember 50 years from now. A guide will be with you all the way and you will have all the necessary safety gear so it’s perfectly safe. It’s tough but it’s well worth it!
Next up for you ladies, I suggest a really cool way of enjoying the outdoors, getting on the water and having a laugh. Of course, I’m talking about canoeing. This is a really relaxing way to spend an afternoon and my groups always enjoy this activity. Even if you have never been canoeing before, you’ll be given a lesson and the instructor will stay with you at all times to make sure everyone is okay. It is a very serene and chilled-out experience but, if you want something a bit more pulsating, you can canoe on a faster river!
Aviemore is known for its amazing and picturesque scenery and one way to see it, but in a really fearless and cool way, is by going on the thrilling quad bike trek! This is tremendous fun. When I went on this trek, I didn’t have much previous experience of quad bikes (I’m a pro now I might add!) but it was very easy to learn the basics. A guide took us on an incredible highland safari but never in areas that we couldn’t handle. But, if you are experienced on quad bikes then let them know and they’ll make sure that you go on a more challenging trek. The staff will tailor the trek to the needs of your hen group which is really cool. That way everyone enjoys the ride!
To get a real shot of adrenalin and to feel like you’re on a roller coaster ride, have a go at the insane white water rafting. This is one of my personal favourite things to do in Aviemore and the rapids here are really fast! You girls will have to work together, listen to your guide and give it your all to get down the river. This is an awesome adventure and once you’ve done it, you’re really pumped up and feel like you want to do the whole thing again!
A few years ago, I don’t think I would have ever tried or even considered paintballing. But, now I’m older (well, not much older!) and wiser, I have come to love rolling around in the woods shooting at friends and even being shot at! This is great fun with loads of laughs and you’ll be surprised at how competitive you become as you try to ensure that your team is the one that is standing tall at the end of the day. It’s all good safe fun as you will be taught how to use the guns and of course you’ll be covered from head to toe in safety gear.
Here is an Aviemore hen day activity that will really test your nerves – the extremely well-designed high ropes course. A high ropes course is similar to the obstacle courses that teachers made you do during PE. It has balance beams, rope climbing and other testing challenges except this one is high up in the trees of the old Aviemore forest! The setting is simply jaw-dropping which can help to calm any nerves as you navigate the course. There are some really fun zip lines and jumps that you’ll have to overcome. For thrillseekers, the course is amazing and for those of you who are scared of heights, don’t worry as there is always an instructor on hand and the safety harness is state of the art!
Even More Cool Aviemore Hen Day Activities!
Aviemore has so much cool stuff going on and here are a few more of my recommended must-do activities.
Aviemore has a reputation for being the best spot for a hen weekend if you want to get all sweaty, muddy and have an action-packed weekend. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t take a few hours to kick back, relax and get pampered as if you are Jennifer Lopez. You can have an amazing spa day here and get all types of treatments to make you look and feel like a million dollars and also to get rid of the aches and pains that might have cropped up after taking part in all the fun-filled activities.
The film Brave seemed to make many of us ladies feel as if we could be warrior princesses (well it did me!) and what better way to achieve this than by learning the ‘art of the bow’ with a fun day of archery. I have had archery sessions all over the country (no lie!) but none have had such a wonderful setting as this. With the Scottish Highlands as your backdrop, you will really feel as if you are in some kind of medieval film as you try to ping your arrow into the centre of the target. In our game, we kept score and made sure that the winner got a trophy at the end of the day!
For those of you who are having an Aviemore hen do in the winter, spending a day skiing is an amazing experience! I had never been skiing before and I was terrified I’d be doing the whole Bambi on ice thing … spending most of the day on my rear end! But, after just one lesson, we were taken to a relatively small slope and allowed to go at our own pace. I did fall over now and again but that just added to the fun. For a winter hen weekend, this is a must-do activity!
I know that this final activity may seem a little ‘out there’ for some of you, but ‘Oh my God’ this was a blast … literally, a blast. Clay pigeon shooting is something that is often seen as just for men! But forget that! We locked and loaded (my nephew will be proud that I used that term) and then tried our hand at taking the clays down! It was so cool because they had different targets for different skill levels and we were given a lesson on how to shoot properly. It did take a while to get the hang of but holding these big guns was actually really good fun!
Eating At The Right Places And Doing The Right Things!
Here is a mini-guide with all the recommended places to eat as well as other things to do to ensure you have a brilliant Aviemore hen day!
Where To Eat Breakfast
To start your day off the right way, one place where you can have a nice cup of coffee and a good selection of fried and healthy food is The Mountain Cafe! This is the only place you‘ll need for breakfast in Aviemore!
A Good Scottish Lunch
The Old Bridge Inn is one of the nicest pubs in Aviemore. It has so much going on that it is regarded as one of the best places to go in the town. For two hours every day, they offer some amazing lunch options. Good food, good booze and an awesome atmosphere!
Getting A Taxi In Aviemore
If your muscles are so sore that you cannot walk back to your hotel, then give Aviemore Taxis a call and they’ll save your aching bones!
Is There A Time When You Should Avoid Aviemore?
Hmm, on the one hand I want to say the winter as the winters here are freezing! But, at the same time, Aviemore offers some amazing winter activities to suit all tastes. So, if winter sports are your thing, then you’ll really be in your element. However, gorge walking, paintballing and white water rafting are closed during the winter.
Are There Any Festivals In Aviemore?
Well, this is not the type of place where a festival will attract all the best bands from around the world! But there is still some fun to be had. One celebration that the locals love is The Insider Festival. This is a small, very Scottish festival that has music, amazing food and some artsy activities as well.
Is There A Good Pharmacy In Aviemore?
Don’t worry, if you’re looking for bandages, plasters or painkillers, you can head to Boots which has an excellent pharmacy.
