Here are some of the most enjoyable indoor and outdoor activities that the great town of Bournemouth has to offer.
When we were kids, many of us ladies dreamt of being on Top Of The Pops. Well, let me introduce you to an incredible dance party day! You now can live out those dreams. Many different styles of dance are on offer but we chose the Dirty Dancing party. Oh my God, this was so much fun! It was just like being in the film or being taken back to our childhood, except that I didn’t have my Patrick Swayze poster to kiss (hey, don’t judge me!). You’ll have a great time as you’re taught the actual dances from the film. And, if Dirty Dancing is not your thing, many other styles of dance are available.
I’ll be honest, before I make any recommendations, I like to try out some of the action-packed activities when I hit a town or city to see what they would be like for a hen weekend. But seriously, I could have spent the whole weekend at the Oceana Day Spa. This was just so good that I honestly can’t find the words to describe it (which is a first for me!). This place offers all the normal beauty treatments and relaxation therapies that you’d expect but the whole vibe and atmosphere here is just so relaxing that once you’ve entered, you’ll not want to leave. If you want to guarantee that you look and feel sexy on your night out, then spend some time here!
I love a nice spa and here you’re taken on such a relaxing ride that once your session is over, you’ll be asking what happened to the time and when can you go back in. We had a fabulous time. The spa offered a fun experience with some amazing treatments (the deep massage is fantastic!). We could chat, have a laugh and just enjoy each other’s company. This was a great start to our hen night and I’m sure it will be the same for you!
If there’s one activity in Bournemouth that will make you feel young again, it’s driving around like a lunatic as you try to beat your friends in a fun hour or two of go karting. The staff here were just so friendly and accommodating and as soon as they knew that we were a hen party, they went beyond the call of duty to ensure that we had a great time. We had a couple of non-drivers in our group but they had them up and running in no time! This activity was a blast and while I’m too horribly embarrassed to admit where I finished, my friend proudly displays the winning trophy on her desk!
There is another really cool and fun activity that lets you either work together or be put into opposing teams! It's A Knockout was a very popular TV show that ran for many years. It involved competing in weird and wacky games and contestants were often dressed up in all sorts of wonderful costumes. Well ladies, now you can take part in a really authentic representation of this show. One of my, let’s just say, more geeky friends got a real kick out of using some of the props that were actually used on the show. There’s no doubt that you’ll get soaked with water, blasted to hell and back with foam and be rolling around in big inflatable suits! This is a wild and madcap way to spend an afternoon and it’s just perfect for a hen weekend.
Have you ever had a cocktail and thought to yourself, “I could make a better cocktail with my eyes closed”? Well, now you can put your money where your mouth is as you take part in this intriguing, funny and downright amazing cocktail making lesson. You will be shown how to mix the right cocktail ingredients, how to shake it properly and how to pour the perfect amount. Best of all, you will be sampling everything you make! This is a fun little activity that is perfect for killing a few hours.
If I’m honest, during this next activity I spent more time licking my fingers and stuffing my face than actually ‘working’. I’m talking about having loads of fun in a chocolate making class. You will be taught how to make some truly delicious chocolates. Of course, whether yours turn out like the instructor’s is open to debate but I promise you’ll have a great time trying! So, you can indulge those chocolate cravings and satisfy your sweet tooth. You can even take your chocolate creations home with you. Most of ours were eaten in the taxi back to the hotel but, hey, this is a hen weekend so if you can’t pig out here then when can you?
More Weird, Crazy & Unusual Bournemouth Hen Day Activities!
Here are some other hen day activities for you to try in Bournemouth. These are a bit more ‘out there’ but they are still a lot of fun!
Come and feel like Wonder Woman as you ‘suit up’ and then start scaling walls like some sort of superhero! Bournemouth has a really cool indoor climbing centre. Here, you can work with instructors as they help you to scale these challenging walls! What was awesome about this activity was that they had climbing walls of all sizes. We were at the bottom when it came to the skill level but we still had loads of fun climbing up our little wall. A couple of us even tackled some of the higher and more testing walls later in the day.
Now ladies, I’m sure you would all love to discover the art of seduction and how to send your man into a state of frenzy by learning how to pole dance! This is not just for ‘loose women’ which is what some people think. This is all about a group of girls just having fun and a wild time together. I’m sure your sides will ache from all the laughter! Also, after you see how tough this is, you will have huge respect for the girls who pole dance for a living. Many ladies become addicted and find themselves doing this as a way of keeping fit!
Dude!!!!!! That’s what surfers say isn’t it? Ah, who cares? What I do know is that my hen group had a fantastic time being taught how to surf at this surfing school! The instructors will begin the lesson on the beach, getting you used to the board and how to get on it (which is harder than it looks by the way). Then, you’ll move into the water where it gets even crazier! I’m not saying you’ll be doing flips and stuff, but that first time you get on the board and manage to surf for a few seconds is just awesome!
If surfing is not your thing but you still want to do something in the sea, then why not try a little sea kayaking? I’ll be 100% honest with you ladies, before I tried sea kayaking, I never even knew it existed! Despite that, we all had a great time here. It is really unpredictable as you never know how the waves are going to throw you and I thought it would be really tough, but it was actually pretty easy to pick up! An instructor is constantly by your side so you are always in good hands. We had a hoot doing this activity, even if some of us spent more time in the water than in our kayaks!
Some Stuff That You Need To Know About Bournemouth
Here is the need-to-know stuff about a Bournemouth hen day!
Where To Eat Breakfast
For a relaxing and filling breakfast, Frieda's Tea Room is the perfect place. You can enjoy a nice easy breakfast along with an invigorating cup of coffee. Or, you can do what I did and insist on having a big fat piece of cake at 9am! Hey, it was a hen weekend so it’s perfectly okay to have cake for breakfast.
Lunch In Bournemouth
The Edge Restaurant & Bar offers a fabulous two-course set menu. What we liked about this place was not just the great selection of alcohol to go with our lunch, but the fact that the menu had something for everyone so there were no complaints from us!
Getting A Taxi
Getting a taxi in Bournemouth is simple and we would just call one over on the street! Plus, there are several taxi firms in the area if you are either too drunk or too lazy to walk! Star Radio Cars was one of the companies we used and the service was great.
Worst Time To Come Here
Let’s face it, most places have a time of year when they are just too overcrowded or unattractive to visit. As far as Bournemouth is concerned, as it is a seaside resort, it is popular with tourists and families so it is often overcrowded and busy during the summer holidays. So, if you would prefer your hen party to be at a quieter time, avoid coming during the school holidays.
Festivals In Bournemouth
Bournemouth is home to several different festivals but the biggest and the best (in my opinion) is the Arts By The Sea Festival. This has some really cool live bands, films are shown, plays are performed and all kinds of other stuff goes on. It’s pretty amazing just how many different things can be enjoyed during this festival. The Arts By The Sea Festival takes place during the autumn so this could be a perfect fit for your hen weekend.
I Broke A Nail! (Pharmacies In Bournemouth)
If you need a pharmacy in Bournemouth, then there are a few options. Perhaps the most accessible are Asda and Boots which stock pretty much everything you’d need to get yourself patched up so you can keep on having a wild time on your hen weekend!
